Fans of Magnolia Electric Co., Songs: Ohia, San South Gabriel and Centro-Matic won't need to reach far to find the familiar grit and ache they found in the music of artists Jason Molina and Will Johnson in their separate projects before this album. The collaboration (which, as described by Johnson was a 10 day workshop punctuated by occasional episodes of firing a BB gun from a porch) bore a 15 track album that, resisting the usual pitch and spin, should be heard and shared. I try not to make over-arching analogies for albums unless they make it unavoidable, but I will say this much: Put this on some quality speakers, pour yourself a glass of whiskey, and trust that what at first seems dry and bitter will warm you on the way down.
I am a little late (one year exactly) with posting this album, but maybe someone else out there can hear it for the first time and pass it along.
